Last weekend was a hot one in La Crosse, as 45 shooters competed for bragging rights on the 600-yard line of the scenic La Crosse Rifle Club. Conditions on Saturday were calm with no big surprises, leading to some big scores. Iowa’s Ricky Hunt led the pack with an outstanding 800-46x for the Saturday match win. WI native Jeremy Graves was close behind in 2nd with his 798-51x having the lead on X’s over Rick. My own 798-45x was only good enough for 3rd place for the day – tough crowd!
This match is used by shooters from all over the country as a warm up for the Midwest Palma Championships in Lodi, and as such does not typically have a large F-Class presence. This year, there were 10 total on hand, and Randy Snook’s 799-57 put him at the head of the class. Bob Mead was in the hunt with a solid 797-44 going into day 2.
Sunday was much the same, with temps in the low 90’s, and jungle-like humidity. The mighty McGee’s from Kansas fought their way back from a hard Saturday to finish in 1st and 2nd on Sunday. Shirley’s 798-36x just edged out husband Steve’s 797-45x. These two can never be counted out of any match they enter, and they proved why yet again. Jeremy Graves shot another excellent score, and his 796-48x was good enough for 3rd place on Sunday, and his 2-day agg score was at the top of the heap.
Bob Mead and Randy Snook traded places on Sunday in the F-Class match, this time with Bob coming out on top, but coming up just a point and 5 x’s away from the weekend win.
Sandy “Deadeye” Pagel and her crew put on another top-notch match, just like they always do. LRC is quickly becoming one of my favorite ranges to shoot, and I am looking forward to heading back in late August for the WI MRP State Championship.
