9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
II Corinthians 12:9-10
We are all fallible. We will never will be perfect. We will continue to make mistakes and hurt those we love. Seems like a gloomy outlook, doesn’t it? Yes, but as imperfect people there is a remedy that only Jesus Christ can offer to EVERYONE… His grace. It is the power that sustains us through every pain, struggle, hardship, and persecution we encounter. It is the glue that holds us together after breaking apart from the countless mistakes we make. It is the bandage that protects, reinforces and tells us we are more than conquerors, (Romans 8:37). And most importantly, it is a love that reassures; that even in our sin, God sent His only Son to die for us and to save us, (Romans 5:8, John 3:16).
Like many of you, I look at my life and sometimes wonder, “How the heck have I made it this far?”. I look at the many times I have chosen to turn my back on God and do MY own thing. I reflect on the times I have felt alone, wronged by others, misunderstood, and even when I have hurt those close to me. Navigating through life on my own has never proven to be successful, and every misstep and lesson has shown me that the ONLY way is trusting in the One who knows my every step before I even take it, (Jeremiah 29:11).
So what exactly is this gift? It is the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings. How awesome is that! Grace, a FREE gift; a gift that SAVES us from sin and death. It is the gift that breathes life and healing into each of our lives, and all we have to do is ask for it. That’s all, nothing else… just ask and believe. It is because of this grace, that I continue to live and remain strong in my faith; knowing that even while I am in the midst of a struggle, I know God will see me through.
God’s grace has another amazing effect; the ability to open our eyes and hearts to those around us. It enables empathy, forgiveness, and love. Now, I will admit, passing this on isn’t always automatic, but every time I experience God’s grace in my life, it becomes that much easier. Surrendering our life to God is the key, though, the necessary catalyst that enables us to see others the way He does. To love others with this unconditional love, is an awesome manifestation of His of grace; God’s power at work in each of our lives, being the ultimate witness for Him.
And that my friends… is TRULY,
